Did you know March is nutrition month? How will your school and/or child care facility celebrate? On March 19, 2020, Farm to School wants to celebrate with you by co-hosting a Great Big Crunch event!
The Great Big Crunch is a Canadian campaign created by FoodShare in Ontario which invites students and staff at schools and child care facilities to learn about healthy food choices and positive eating environments. It is a special day, assembly, lunch hour or 5 minutes dedicated to carrots and ending with a synchronized “crunch” to celebrate!
Farm to School Manitoba is looking for a school and/or child care facility to celebrate the Great Big Crunch with and it could be you!
To enter the contest:
Send Farm to School an email at farm2school@mahe.ca and tell us what your school or child care facility has been doing to support healthy eating environments. By doing this, you will be entered for a chance to have Farm to School host and provide carrots for your Great Big Crunch event! The winning school will be announced on March 1, 2020.
What to expect (if you are the winner):
- Farm to School Manitoba will come to the winning school and/or child care facility on March 19, 2020, or an agreed upon time.
- Together we will plan carrot themed age-appropriate games and activities. Some examples of activities include skits, poems, songs, art work, education from seed to carrot.
- The event will finish off with a great big CARROT CRUNCH – all students and staff will each receive a carrot, courtesy of Farm to School Manitoba, to crunch into simultaneously! How loud will the crunch be?
Once entered, Farm to School Manitoba will provide you with a resource package including fact sheets and recipes to help you put together an awesome Great Big Crunch event!
